Why do some insist that the compilation of the Qur’an occurred during the era of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, while numerous narrations indicate its compilation during the time of the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him?

The Quran was not collected into a single volume during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Rather, it was dispersed in the hearts of men and on various loose pages. This continued until many reciters (of the Quran) were killed in the Battle of Yamamah. Umar ibn al-Khattab then advised Abu Bakr to collect it, fearing its loss with the death of its bearers. So, Zayd ibn Thabit collected it from parchments, shoulder blades, and the hearts of men. It remained with Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Hafsa. As for Uthman's collection, it was due to people disagreeing and disputing over the different readings. So, he collected the Quran based on what was authentically established from the well-known readings and made copies of it, which he sent to the different regions.
