What is the ruling on accidental killing, and what is incumbent upon the killer?

Accidental killing is an act not intended to cause death but that leads to it. The obligations in such a case are blood money (diyah) and expiation (kaffarah). Expiation is fasting for two consecutive months for whoever does not find a slave to free, based on the Almighty's saying: "And whoever kills a believer by mistake, then he must free a believing slave" until His saying: "And whoever does not find one—then [it is] the fasting of two consecutive months as repentance from Allah. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise." [An-Nisa': 92]. The blood money is on the killer's 'aqilah (male relatives on the father's side), and its amount is one thousand mithqals of gold, or twelve thousand dirhams, or one hundred camels (Twenty Bint Makhāḍ, young female camels in their second year, whose mothers are pregnant again; Twenty Ibn Makhāḍ, young male camels also in their second year; Twenty Bint Labūn, female camels in their third year, stronger and more mature; Twenty Ḥiqqah, female camels in their fourth year, suitable for mating and bearing loads; and Twenty Jadhāʿah, fully mature female camels in their fifth year, considered the most valuable.).
