How is birth control regulated and the period between each birth determined, and on what basis?

Prohibiting permanent contraception is due to its alteration of Allah’s creation and its elimination of progeny, which undermines the Shari'ah's objective of preserving offspring. As for temporary contraception, it is permissible in cases of verified necessity or for a benefit deemed by the spouses, such as the practice of coitus interruptus (al-'azl) mentioned during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is stipulated that the husband's consent be obtained and a doctor consulted when using temporary contraceptive methods.
