Am I required to go to the Miqat to perform Umrah if I live in Dhahran and will be visiting my family in Jeddah during my annual leave?

If your residence in Dhahran is permanent and you travel to Jeddah with the intention of performing 'Umrah, you must enter into a state of ihram from the miqat you pass by. However, if your residence in Dhahran is temporary, you have the choice to enter ihram either from the miqat or from Jeddah, and it is better to enter ihram from the farther point. Ibn Baz issued a fatwa stating that someone temporarily residing outside Jeddah, whose family home is in Jeddah, has the choice to enter ihram either from the miqat or from Jeddah. Ibn 'Uthaymin mentioned that whoever resides in Riyadh and visits his family in Jeddah with the intention of performing 'Umrah, must enter ihram from the miqat.
