It is permissible to abort the fetus within the first forty days of pregnancy if the mother is ill and cannot endure the hardship of pregnancy. This is in accordance with the decision of the Council of Senior Scholars, which permits abortion at this stage if there is a legitimate benefit or to avert harm. However, after this period, abortion is not permissible unless a reliable medical committee determines that its continuation poses a danger to the mother's life. After completing four months, it is not permissible to abort it unless doctors determine that the fetus's continued presence will cause the mother's death, and after exhausting all means to preserve its life.
