How can one deal with a mother who abuses her daughter with hurtful words, insults, and false accusations in front of her children, thinks ill of her, accepts no justification from her, and refuses any attempt to discuss matters with her, knowing that the daughter tries to honor and be good to her to the best of her ability? Is the daughter considered deficient in her piety or sinful, and will God answer the mother's prayers against her?

If what was mentioned about the mother's misconduct towards her daughter is true, then this is surprising given the known compassion and tenderness of a mother. The daughter did well by her patience and endurance of harm, for no matter how much a parent wrongs, that does not negate the obligation to honor and treat them with kindness. One of the greatest acts of kindness towards a mother is to strive for her betterment, and that is by supplicating for her guidance. If the daughter's situation with her mother involves attempting to honor her, serve her, and provide her comfort, then this is among the greatest acts of righteousness. However, it should not be forgotten that no matter what she does, she will not fulfill her mother's right, as stated in the Hadith of Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both. If nothing has occurred from the daughter that necessitates disobedience, then she is not sinful. And if the mother supplicates against her unjustly, it is hoped that her supplication will not be answered.
