The question

What is the ruling on a woman who entered into a state of ihram for Umrah, then menstruated and did not perform circumambulation (tawaf), and returned to her country, and her husband had intercourse with her, whether she was aware or unaware, willing or coerced, and able or unable to return to complete the Umrah? And does the sacrificial offering (hady) multiply with repeated intercourse?

The answer

A woman who enters into a state of ihram for Umrah and returns to her country before completing it, remains in her state of ihram until she returns to Makkah to complete her Umrah. Sexual intercourse in this situation necessitates a sheep to be slaughtered in the Haram and distributed among its poor. If the intercourse occurred out of ignorance, the Umrah is not invalidated according to many scholars. However, if it was intentional, the Umrah is invalid, and she must complete it, then enter into ihram for a compensatory Umrah from the miqat.

If the wife consented to the sexual intercourse, the compensatory sacrifice is upon her. If she was forced, it is upon the husband. For other prohibitions, such as cutting hair and trimming nails, there is one expiation for each type. As for wearing tailored clothes and using perfume, there is no penalty for them if done out of ignorance.

If the woman is unable to return to Makkah, the ruling of being prevented from continuing (muhsar) applies to her. She then exits the state of ihram by shortening her hair and sacrifices a sheep or a camel in her country of residence, distributing it to the poor. Alternatively, she may fast for ten days if she is unable to offer the sacrifice.
