The answer

Expiation (kaffarah) is obligatory for whoever accidentally kills a Dhimmi or a Musta'min, or participates in their killing. This is the view of the majority of scholars. If a group of people participate in accidental killing, then each one of them must offer a full expiation, which is: freeing a slave. If one cannot find a slave, then fasting for two consecutive months; based on the Almighty's saying: (And if he should be from a people with whom you have a treaty - then a compensation delivered to his family and the freeing of a believing slave. And whoever does not find [one] - then a fast for two consecutive months as repentance to Allah. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.) An-Nisa/ 92.
