Is it considered tamattu‘ if the father who is coming for Hajj on the 11th of Dhu al-Qi‘dah goes from Egypt to Jeddah, then to Makkah for ‘Umrah and returns to Jeddah to stay there until the 8th, then goes to Makkah for Hajj? And from where should he enter ihram, whether for ‘Umrah or for Hajj? And if he does not go except for Hajj only on the 8th, should he enter ihram from Jeddah?

If your father intends to perform Umrah first and then Hajj, he is a Mutamatti' (one who performs Tamattu' Hajj) and must offer the Hady (sacrifice) for Tamattu'. He must enter into the state of Ihram for Umrah from Al-Juhfah. After exiting the state of Ihram for Umrah, he may return to Jeddah and enter into Ihram for Hajj from there. However, if he intends to perform Hajj only, he is not a Mutamatti' and must enter into Ihram for Hajj from Al-Juhfah. In this case, he may stay in Jeddah while remaining in the state of Ihram, provided he avoids the prohibitions of Ihram.
