The question

The answer

If a woman is experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) and has neither a regular period nor the ability to distinguish between menstrual and non-menstrual blood, she should consider six or seven days of each month as menstruation and the rest as istihada. During the menstrual period, she abstains from prayer and fasting. During the period of istihada, she performs ghusl (ritual bath) and wudu (ablution) for each prayer after its time has begun, and then prays and fasts. If she is unable to fast due to weakness resulting from the bleeding, she may break her fast and make up for it after Ramadan.
