What is the ruling on a woman's fasting if she gets her menstrual period and the bleeding continues throughout the entire month of Ramadan?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If bleeding continues for more than fifteen days, a woman is considered to have Istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding). She must take precautions and perform ablution for each prayer after its time has begun, and she should pray and fast. This bleeding does not permit her to abandon fasting unless it affects her health. She should have asked people of knowledge to ascertain the ruling on her prayer and fasting during the bleeding. If she left prayer and fasting for more than fifteen days, she must repent and make up the prayers she missed due to the continuous bleeding, except for the days of menstruation, for which there is no making up. She must also make up the days she broke her fast in Ramadan, whether it was due to a legitimate excuse or out of ignorance.
