Do the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, hear the imams of the Prophet's Mosque when they recite the Qur’an or deliver the Friday sermon, by analogy with the hearing of the dead?

The issue of the dead hearing in their graves is a matter of scholarly disagreement. The correct view is that there is no impediment to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his two companions hearing the aforementioned words, but asserting this definitively requires evidence. No authentic text has been reported that distinguishes between the Prophet and others regarding hearing, nor is it established in the Quran and Sunnah that the Prophet hears every supplication. Rather, the prayers and salutations of those who pray upon him and send greetings to him reach him, whether they are at his grave or far from it, based on his (peace be upon him) saying: "Send prayers upon me, for your greetings reach me wherever you are." As for the hadith: "Whoever prays upon me at my grave, I hear him; and whoever prays upon me from afar, it is conveyed to me," it is weak.
