What is the ruling on completing a marriage to a suitor who works as a judge in the field of misdemeanors and felonies, and who considers this permissible, citing Qur'anic verses, and who believes that usurious gains are Haram only if they are excessive, keeping in mind that my family will be angry if the marriage is not completed, and what should I do if he is not convinced by the proofs of prohibition?

The obligation to rule by what Allah has revealed and the prohibition of ruling by other than it is agreed upon among scholars. However, they differed on some of its forms, whether they constitute major disbelief (kufr akbar) or minor disbelief (kufr asghar). A judge who rules by other than what Allah has revealed falls into several categories:

1. One who deems it permissible to rule by other than what Allah has revealed is a disbeliever, and his wage is unlawful. 2. One who rules by other than what Allah has revealed but does not deem it permissible, and his desires led him to it, is sinful and has committed a major sin. 3. One who rules by other than what Allah has revealed due to his ignorance is sinful, and he must withdraw from judging and repent. 4. One who exercises ijtihad (independent reasoning) in his ruling and is correct receives two rewards, and if he errs, he receives one reward and is excused.

As for the lawyer: His defense of falsehood, while deeming it permissible, is disbelief. If he does not deem it permissible, he is sinful, and his wage is illicit. However, if he defends the right of his client believing that he is legally in the right, he is rewarded.

As for teaching man-made laws: 1. If it is to expose their falsehood and clarify the supremacy of Sharia, it is permissible. 2. If it is out of desire for them and to promote them, it is clear disbelief.

The prohibition of usury encompasses both small and large amounts and is not restricted to it being "multiplied manifold." The husband should be candidly informed about this matter, and it should be clarified that it is not permissible to live in a house sustained by unlawful earnings.
