Must the wife have a third child to fulfill her and her husband's wishes, or should she abstain in obedience to her disapproving mother?

The Islamic Sharia encourages having many offspring due to the strength and might it brings to the Muslim nation, and because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, will boast of his nation on the Day of Resurrection, as stated in the Hadith: "Marry the loving and fertile, for I will boast of your multitude before the nations."

A child is not obligated to obey their parents in abstaining from procreation, as this contradicts the command of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and because it is a shared right between the spouses. The wife should be gentle in her interactions with her mother.
