Is it permissible for a father to take from his son's wealth if he is not in need of it, and if the son refuses, is he considered sinful or disobedient?

The conditions mentioned in the fatwa are not from Ibn al-Qayyim, but are based on the view of the majority of scholars who stipulate the father's need as a condition for taking from his son's wealth. This is in contrast to the Hanbalis, who permit the father to take from his son's wealth even without need, provided two conditions are met: that he does not unduly harm the son, and that he does not take from his son's wealth to give it to another. According to the view of the majority, there is no sin upon you if you withhold from your father what he does not need from your wealth. A father is not permitted to take from his son's wealth to give to another son, nor can he compel his son to spend on another's university education. If the father is in need, he may take from his son's wealth to the extent of his need. If siblings are in need of obligatory maintenance and the father is unable to provide it, then it is obligatory for the wealthy brother to spend on his needy sibling. A father spending on his son's university education on the condition that the son spends on his brother is not permissible.
