The answer

We have previously discussed the ruling on inserting an IUD and the menstrual irregularities it may cause. If six days is the original duration of the menses, then anything exceeding it is istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) which does not prevent prayer or fasting, unless the blood matches menstrual blood in color or smell, in which case it is considered menses as long as it does not exceed half a month. Regarding the yellow discharge after the cessation of blood: if it occurs during the menstrual period and before purification, then it is considered menses, based on the statement of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "Do not hasten until you see the white discharge (al-qassah al-bayda')." However, if it occurs outside the days of menstruation, then it is not considered menses, based on the statement of Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): "We did not consider yellow or turbid discharge anything after purification."
