Is it a condition to pray over the deceased to obtain the reward of a qirat for one who follows the funeral?

The Sunnah indicates that whoever attends a funeral until the prayer is performed for it receives one qiraat, and whoever attends it until it is buried receives two qiraats. The qiraat is a great measure of reward.

This reward is obtained by whoever prays over the deceased, even if they do not leave their home with the funeral procession, though it is less than the reward of one who accompanies it from their home.

As for one who follows the funeral procession without praying over it or witnessing its burial, they do not fall under this promise, but they are hoped to receive reward according to their intention.

Similarly, for one who only witnesses the burial without praying, the apparent meaning of the hadith is that they do not receive a qiraat, though they do receive a general reward commensurate with their action.

Thus, the two qiraats are only obtained by one who witnesses both the prayer and the burial.
