The answer

If a man divorces his wife with an explicit word and repeats the word of divorce, if he intended three divorces, then it counts as three, and the wife becomes irrevocably divorced from him with a major divorce (baynunah kubra). However, if he intended emphasis or did not intend anything, then it counts as one divorce. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that divorcing three times with a single utterance counts as one divorce. The husband is permitted to reconcile with his wife during her 'iddah (waiting period) if it was a single divorce.
