The basic principle regarding sales is permissibility and lawfulness, unless the seller knows or strongly believes that the buyer will use the commodity for an unlawful purpose, in which case the sale becomes prohibited. The ruling on selling commodities differs between a wholesaler and a retailer. A retailer is obliged not to sell to someone who is likely to use the commodity for an unlawful purpose, whereas a wholesaler incurs no sin in selling permissible commodities to retailers, unless their widespread use in unlawful ways is prevalent in the country. Accordingly, there is no harm in selling cosmetics and beauty supplies to retailers.
