Is the profession of selling cosmetics and hairdressing supplies permissible or forbidden?

The ruling on working in this profession has details: It is not permissible to sell these items to someone known to use them for unlawful display (tabarruj). It is permissible to sell them to someone known to use them for permissible adornment. However, if the buyer's intention is unknown, the default rule is permissibility. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has stated that it is not permissible to sell if the seller knows that the buyer will use it for what Allah has forbidden, and it is permissible to trade in them if it is known that the buyer will adorn herself with it for her husband, or if nothing is known (about her intention).
