How was the fasting of the Prophets?
The fasting of the prophets has not been transmitted to us, except for the fasting of David (peace be upon him), or what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) instituted. It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim that the difference between the fasting of Muslims and the People of the Book is the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), where it is recommended for Muslims to partake in the suhoor while the People of the Book do not. As for anything else, no difference has been found between our fasting and the fasting of those before us, as stated in the Almighty’s saying: "O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous," where some scholars believe that the resemblance includes the time and duration of the fasting.
