Is the questioner considered divorced from her husband or not, based on her husband's saying to her: "Divorce yourself if you wish," and her saying to him: "I am divorced from you three times," then he resumed conjugal relations after twenty months, and this was repeated after about three years with him saying to her: "Divorce yourself," knowing that he resumed conjugal relations before the 'iddah (waiting period) ended?

It is advisable to consult scholars or Islamic centers for accurate answers to such questions. Generally, abandoning a wife and mistreating her without a legitimate reason contradicts good marital conduct. It is permissible for a husband to delegate the power of divorce to his wife. If she divorces herself, the divorce is valid. The wife to whom the power of divorce has been delegated can only issue one divorce, unless the husband authorizes her for more. If this is not the third divorce, the husband can reconcile with his wife without a new contract as long as she is within her waiting period (iddah). If the waiting period ends, he cannot reconcile with her except through a new contract. A husband must treat his wife kindly, following the example of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
