Do manners indicate the extent of a Muslim's faith? Is it a religious obligation to love a Muslim with bad manners? Are all Muslims equal in the obligation of love? Is it obligatory to strive against one's own desires to love him, even with his bad manners?

Good character is a sign of perfect faith and raises one's ranks in Paradise, whereas bad character indicates a deficiency in faith and may lead to entry into Hellfire, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sought refuge from it. You must love a believer commensurate with their faith and obedience, and detest them commensurate with their disobedience and bad character, even if they wrong you. An unbeliever must be treated as an enemy, even if they do good to you. If a person combines good and evil, then they deserve allegiance and reward commensurate with the good, and enmity and punishment commensurate with the evil. Your love for all Muslims should not be of the same degree; rather, it varies according to their faith and character.
