Is a person sinful for loving someone characterized by good manners and little religiosity, and for being repulsed by someone who is more religious but ill-mannered? To what extent is this connected to love and hate for the sake of Allah? And how is love for the sake of Allah and hate for the sake of Allah achieved?

A Muslim does not sin by loving good character more than loving a religious person with bad character, because the preference in love is only due to Allah and His Messenger, and the obligation of this love takes precedence over every beloved thing. The best love is that which is for Allah and in Allah; so, one loves the believers for their faith and obedience, and hates the disobedient for their disobedience, and the disbelievers for their disbelief. Indeed, bad character corrupts deeds and incurs Allah's wrath and punishment.
