Is listening to music alone in one's room forbidden (haram) if it does not lead to debauchery, immorality, or committing forbidden acts?

The prohibition of listening to music is general in all circumstances and forms. This is indicated by the words of Allah Almighty: "And among the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment." (Surat Luqman, 31:6). Ibn Mas'ud interpreted "amusement of speech" as singing. Among the prophetic evidences is the hadith of Abu 'Amir from the Prophet, peace be upon him: "There will be people from my Ummah who will legitimize illicit sexual intercourse, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments." And the hadith of Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari, which mentioned: "and musical instruments will be played over their heads." The imams of the Muslims have transmitted a consensus on the prohibition of listening to musical instruments. Therefore, it is not permissible to listen to music alone or with others. Be diligent in listening to the Book of Allah.
