What is the ruling on listening to music, and what should one do if they find it difficult to abstain from it, while still maintaining their prayers and listening to the Quran?

Singing accompanied by musical instruments, or by words that incite instincts and desires, is forbidden. One must get rid of singing tapes and occupy oneself by listening to beneficial things, such as the Holy Quran, Islamic songs (anashid), and scholarly programs and lessons. For whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better.
