Sometimes unwanted thoughts related to religion or acts of worship arise in a person’s mind, even though they internally reject them and try to resist. Is a person held accountable for such whispers (waswās)?

Cursing worship, or God, or religion, if it is merely a fleeting thought and an internal monologue, the servant is not held accountable for it as long as he does not utter it, or act upon its implications, or allow it to settle in his heart as a belief. The servant's dislike, fear, and aversion to these thoughts and satanic whispers are signs of sound belief and strong faith. This is what is indicated by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "That is pure faith," to those who find within themselves what they deem too great to speak of.
