Does one who says "yes" to the doctrinal whisperings and misgivings in his mind exit the fold of Islam, and what is his ruling after he has pronounced the Two Testimonies of Faith and performed ritual bathing (ghusl), and what should he do about the persistent whisperings that trouble him concerning the essence of God and affect his life and studies?

This word and these whisperings do not take one out of Islam and do not affect the soundness of faith. The cure for them is to struggle against them and to turn away from them. Say, "I believe in Allah" when the devil whispers to you, and know that "there is nothing like unto Him" (Quran 42:11). Contemplate your inability to conceive of your own soul, so that you may accept your inability to conceive of the 'how' of Allah's attributes. Believe in what Allah has affirmed for Himself and negated from Himself. Strive in supplication, and it is permissible to consult a trusted doctor.
