What is the ruling regarding the 'Umrah that I performed after passing the Miqat and entering into a state of Ihram from Jeddah? Does it necessitate a Fidyah (expiatory offering)? And what is the ruling concerning the validity of subsequent 'Umrahs that are connected to it?

It is obligatory to enter into a state of ihram from the miqat. Whoever passes it without entering ihram must offer a sacrifice (dam) to be slaughtered in Mecca and distributed among its poor, because he left an obligation of the 'umrah. This sacrifice is required even if he was ignorant of the ruling, based on the saying of Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: "Whoever forgets something from his ritual or leaves it, let him spill blood (i.e., offer a sacrifice)." If he is unable to offer the sacrifice, he should fast ten days: three during the Hajj and seven when he returns to his family. His 'umrah is valid, and nothing further is required of him except what has been mentioned.
