Is money given periodically to another person as profits considered usury (riba)? And is eating and drinking from this money unlawful (haram)? And is the person considered to be involved in usury? And is Allah's non-response to prayers due to engagement in these dealings, or is Allah testing patience and facilitating relief? And is it permissible to take a bank guarantee, knowing it is usury, to pay off accumulated debts and avoid imprisonment, or should one remain in the current situation and await relief?
We ask Allah to relieve your distress and expand your breast. What has befallen you is due to your transgression of Allah's limits in several matters: your commitment to guarantee the capital in a mudarabah (profit-sharing) partnership, which makes it a prohibited usurious transaction; your taking a portion of your partner's money to pay off your debt without his permission; and your informing your partner of imaginary profits, which is lying and usury. These sins may prevent the acceptance of supplications, and what happened to you is a trial from Allah. We advise you to repent, and to take a usurious loan out of necessity to avoid imprisonment, and to supplicate persistently, especially during the last third of the night, with the ma'thur (transmitted) supplications, such as the du'a "O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provisions so as to be independent of Your unlawful ones." We also advise you to cease buying goods on credit and selling them for cash at a lower price to avoid compounding losses, and to seek the causes of the loss and learn how to avoid them, and not to embark on any project except after thorough study.
