What is the ruling on the loan that my sister's husband took from the usurious bank where he works, regardless of whether it was with interest or without? And how does the facilitation of their affairs and the abundance of their provision reconcile with Allah's saying: "Allah destroys interest and gives increase for charities"?
Working in usurious banks is impermissible, and one must resign immediately. Borrowing from a usurious bank without interest is permissible, but boycotting such banks is preferable. Regarding the destruction of usury (riba), Allah Almighty said: "Allah destroys interest and gives increase for charities." (Quran 2:276). Destruction (maḥq) means the annihilation of wealth or the removal of its blessing. The threat may be delayed for some usurers during their lifetime so that Allah may destroy their wealth from the hands of their heirs. Thus, destruction encompasses both this world and the Hereafter, and Allah may grant respite to the usurer for a wisdom He knows.
