What is the ruling on my continuing to sit with the girl I intend to marry – after finishing my studies – from time to time in front of people, knowing that our conversation does not exceed the bounds of propriety and does not involve treachery or impropriety? And what is the ruling on my studying at a mixed-gender university, and what is the fatwa that would bring peace to my heart and mind concerning it, taking into account that I lower my gaze as much as possible and constantly seek Allah's forgiveness, and that moral deviations are widespread in Arab universities in general?

Our advice to you is to fear Allah and seek out righteous company that will help you adhere to your religion, lower your gaze, and be cautious of letting your gaze wander freely. Beware of entering into any relationship with girls, and it is not permissible for you to shake hands with any of them. Avoid speaking with them except out of necessity. Seek Allah's help in completing your studies. As for the girl you asked about, she is a stranger to you like any other, and that does not justify establishing a relationship with her except when there is a need. As long as she is religious and of good character, marry her, in compliance with the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "So win the one who is religious, your hands will be soiled."
