What is the ruling on doctors assisting patients in ending their lives?

Doctors assisting patients in ending their lives (euthanasia) is contrary to Islam, as it is the killing of a soul that Allah has forbidden, and it stems from despair in Allah's healing and mercy, which is a forbidden despondency.

It is not permissible for a Muslim to wish for death due to harm that has befallen him. The fact that a person is afflicted with severe harm does not justify seeking to kill oneself, for Allah Almighty has forbidden the killing of a soul, whether it be the soul of the killer or another. The soul belongs to Allah, and the believer knows that illness is a trial through which Allah expiates sins.

Scholars have unanimously agreed that if a person asks another to kill him, it is not permissible for the latter to proceed with that.

A Muslim must not despair of Allah's mercy, for healing may come from Allah through any means. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "There is no disease but that Allah has sent down a cure for it; whoever knows it, knows it, and whoever is ignorant of it, is ignorant of it."
