What is the religious ruling on choosing one of two options: leaving a patient with brain damage after an accident, which leads to their death, or giving them expensive and unguaranteed treatments with partial improvement?

A physician is not permitted to cease treating a patient as long as there is a way to do so. Human life is sacred and must not be wasted except by what the Sharia has stipulated. It is forbidden for a physician to waste life, even out of compassion, for disposing of life or ridding oneself of it under the pretext of severe pain has no basis in the logic of faith, as stated in "The Constitution of Islamic Medicine" from the First International Conference on Islamic Medicine. Human life is respected in all its stages, including embryonic life, and a physician is not permitted to waste it except in cases of extreme necessity approved by the Sharia. If the physician is scientifically certain that the patient cannot return to life, there is no need to excessively prolong their vegetative state with artificial resuscitation means, because what is required is the preservation of life, not the prolongation of the dying process. Death is a certainty, but a physician is not permitted to take positive steps to end the patient's life. Rather, they must strive to provide care for the patient in a way that alleviates their pain and suffering.
