Does touching a deceased person necessitate a full ritual bath (ghusl) or merely ablution (wudu')?

Touching a deceased person does not necessitate ablution (Wudu') or ritual bath (Ghusl (definition)), nor is it considered among the things that invalidate ablution or necessitate ritual bath, according to the consensus of scholars. However, ablution becomes obligatory if a physician touches the private parts of the deceased without a barrier, because touching the private parts invalidates ablution, whether the person is alive or deceased. As for washing the deceased, it does not invalidate ablution according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most preponderant opinion, because the sound evidences do not indicate the obligation of ablution from it; rather, they indicate its non-obligation, though it is recommended.
