What is the expiation for breaking the fast on certain days of Ramadan, and does the expiation suffice for fasting those days?

Whoever intentionally breaks their fast in Ramadan must offer sincere repentance, and they owe the major expiation (kaffarah kubra), which is feeding sixty poor people, or freeing a slave, or fasting for two consecutive months, in addition to making up the day they missed. Some scholars have held that the expiation is only obligatory for intentional sexual intercourse, not for eating or drinking. As for one who breaks their fast due to an excuse, there is no expiation due upon them unless they were negligent in making up the fast and the next Ramadan arrived, in which case they must make up the fast along with offering the minor expiation (kaffarah sughra), which is feeding one mudd for each day.
