What is the ruling on self-control when angry?

A Muslim must control himself regarding what Allah has forbidden, whether in contentment or anger. This control is especially crucial during anger, because a person is then more prone to violating the Sharia through forbidden revenge, murder, destruction, or insult and cursing. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against this, saying: "Do not get angry," and he repeated it. He did not warn against anger itself, as it is an instinct, but rather he warned against doing what causes it or doing what Satan and the self dictate to an angry person that contravenes the Sharia.
