In Islam, a woman has independent financial rights separate from her husband, and it is forbidden for him to take anything from her wealth without her full consent, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The wealth of a Muslim person is not lawful except with his full consent." Likewise, it is impermissible for a man to threaten his wife with divorce in order to extort and take from her wealth. If he does so, he is sinful, and the wealth taken is unlawful for him. If the husband takes her wealth by coercion or threat, she is entitled to take from his wealth an amount equivalent to what he took from her, without exceeding it.
