Did the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, pray in sheepfolds before the mosque was built?

Some have used the hadith about the Prophet's prayer in sheep pens as evidence for the purity of the urine and droppings of animals whose meat is permissible to eat. However, Ash-Shafi'i holds that what is meant is the place free from droppings and urine. Prayer in camel enclosures is disliked due to the Prophet's prohibition, even if the prayer itself is valid there.
