Is it permissible for a husband to prevent his wife from visiting his parents, and for her to suffice with urging him to visit them, knowing that her not visiting them will cause distress to the parents?

The wife should treat her husband's family with kindness. Visiting them is especially confirmed if requested by the husband, as long as no harm results. However, if she does not visit them, she does not commit the sin of severing ties of kinship, because the husband's family are not among her own relatives with whom maintaining ties is obligatory. Kinship (rahim) includes relatives from the father's or mother's side. Therefore, the husband should not compel his wife to visit his family if she does not wish to or if harm would result, and he should mediate between them.
