What is the mother's share of the inheritance?

The mother inherits one-sixth if the deceased has a lineal descendant (son, daughter, son's son, son's daughter) or a group of siblings (two or more brothers, or two or more sisters, or a brother and a sister). She inherits one-third if the deceased has no lineal descendant and no group of siblings. She inherits one-third of the remainder if the deceased has no lineal descendant and no group of siblings, and one of the spouses is present; in this case, the spouse takes their share, then she takes one-third of what remains, and the rest goes to the father. Her share may decrease due to awl (proportionate reduction), which is when the sum of the shares exceeds the total estate. Inheritance cases must be submitted to Sharia courts for investigation.
