Will the repentance of one who committed a sin, knowing that it displeases Allah, be accepted? And how are the words of Allah Almighty to be understood: (But the repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance and then repent soon after...) and His words: (And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and do not knowingly persist in what they have done)? And is Mujahid's saying, that whoever disobeys Allah, whether knowingly or unknowingly, is ignorant, to be considered?
If a servant commits a sin knowingly and intentionally, then repents with sincere repentance, Allah will forgive him, no matter how great his sin. If a servant repents with sincere and earnest repentance, it burns away evil deeds and restores the reward of good deeds.
As for "ignorance" in His (Allah's) statement: (Indeed, the acceptance of repentance by Allah is only for those who do evil out of ignorance and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise) An-Nisa'/17, it refers to committing disobedience to Allah, not to being unaware that the act is a sin. Every disobedient person is ignorant at the time of committing the sin, and everyone who repents before death has repented "soon after."
Committing a sin while knowing it is a sin does not prevent repentance. The conditions for repentance are: abstaining from the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. If there is a right owed to another human being, it must be returned or forgiveness sought from them.
His (Allah's) statement: (And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins — and who can forgive sins except Allah? — and [who] do not knowingly persist in what they have done) Al Imran/135, confirms that among the characteristics of the righteous is to hasten to repentance and seek forgiveness when falling into sin, and not to persist in it. If a servant persists in a minor sin, it becomes a major one, and if he repents, it is forgiven. If he returns to the sin, he must repent again, and Allah will accept his repentance.
