What should a husband do concerning his mother, who mistreats his wife and demands that he divorce her, so that he does not displease his Lord nor wrong his wife?

If the husband's mother harms her son's wife, she must repent, because harming a Muslim is forbidden. To solve the problem, its causes must be examined and treated. If the wife is the cause, she must correct her mistake. If the husband's mother is domineering, the wife must be patient and respond to ill-treatment with kindness. The husband must strive to solve the problem, and striking the mother is forbidden and a great sin. If all solutions fail, the wife has the right to request independent housing to avoid harm from her mother-in-law.
