What are my duties towards my wife who makes my life miserable and utters abusive words about my mother?

The wife's complaint about her husband's mother must be considered fairly. If she is in the right, she should be patient and endure, while attempting to remove what provokes the mother. The mother should be advised gently by her brother, sister, husband, or son. If the mother is in the right and the wife is mistaken, she should be advised. If she does not respond, she should be rebuked. If she does not desist, then a limit must be set. Both spouses are advised to fear Allah and adhere to the morals of Islam.
