The answer

The creed of the People of Truth from among the Sunnis and the Community is that the methodology of the Salaf is sounder, more knowledgeable, and wiser. The best generations in every virtue are the first generation, then those who followed them. Thus, they are superior to the later generations (Khalaf) in every virtue, including knowledge, action, faith, intellect, religion, eloquence, and worship. Scholars have unanimously agreed that the statement, "The methodology of the Salaf is sounder, and the methodology of the Khalaf is more knowledgeable and wiser," is false. This is because it implies accusing the Salaf of the Ummah of deficiency in knowledge and wisdom, and glorifies the theologians (mutakallimun). Moreover, it necessitates that the Khalaf are more knowledgeable than the Salaf, and it even goes as far as to deem the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ignorant and foolish, which is a great danger.
