The question

How can one distinguish between the claims of the different sects (such as the Ash'aris, Salafis, and Shiites) that each of them is the saved sect and upon the methodology of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions, in order to reach the truth and be certain of it?

The answer

Whoever is confused about the truth must seek knowledge and consult its well-grounded scholars. For whoever knows that the truth is in the Book of Allah the Almighty and in the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, according to the understanding of the noble Companions and those who followed them in goodness, and then strives to know this truth through the authentic narrations from them, it will be easy for him to recognize the people of truth. In this regard, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Hold firmly to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs. Cling to it with your molars. Beware of novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance." The methodology of the Ahl al-Sunnah (People of the Sunnah) is a middle path between the two extremes of excess and negligence, and extremism and apathy.
