When does ritual purity become obligatory for a girl, and what is the evidence for its obligation?

The preponderant view is that female circumcision is not obligatory, nor does it have a specific timing. Scholars have differed regarding its time: the Shafi'is and Hanbalis held that the time for its obligation is after puberty, and it is recommended in childhood until the age of discernment. The correct view among the Shafi'is is that it is on the seventh day from birth. According to the Hanbalis and Malikis, it is recommended between the ages of seven and ten. The Hanafis believe that the consideration is the child's endurance, and the Hanafis, Malikis, and Hanbalis disliked circumcision on the seventh day due to resemblance to the Jews.
