What is the ruling on one who commits suicide, what is their state with their Lord, and what can their parents do to alleviate their suffering (the person who commits suicide)?

Suicide is one of the gravest sins, and the one who commits it will be punished with that by which he killed himself, and Paradise will be forbidden to him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, refrained from praying over a suicide victim as a punishment and deterrent, but it is permissible for people to pray over him. Suicide is not an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith; rather, it is one of the major sins that are subject to Allah's will. It is obligatory to supplicate for the suicide victim for mercy and forgiveness due to his dire need for it.
