How do I deal with a wife who curses and assaults when angry, lies, and respects no one, knowing that she prays, and I have hit her before and she did not change, and she is now with her family and refuses to return, and my family hates her?

What a wife does, such as cursing, insulting, and assaulting, is forbidden by Islamic law and falls under ill-treatment and disobedience (nushuz). We advise the husband not to rush into divorcing her as long as he loves her and she claims to love him. He should try every means to change her behavior. The wife should seek forgiveness from her husband's mother, and the wife should avoid whatever provokes her anger.
