How do we ask God for the light and blessing of the verse: "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth"?

The meaning of (Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth) in verse 35 of Surat An-Nur is that Allah Almighty is Light by His essence, and by His Light the Throne, the Footstool, the sun, the moon, and Paradise were illuminated. The spiritual light also returns to Him, for His Book, His Law, and faith are light. Were it not for Him, darkness would accumulate. Allah has likened His Light in the hearts of the believers to a lamp in a gleaming glass niche, kindled from a blessed olive tree. This is a parable for the light of pure human nature (fitra), faith, knowledge, and the purity of spiritual insight, light upon light.

As for the hadith (Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth, so recite it and ask Allah for its light and blessing), it has not been reported in any authentic or weak hadiths, or in the narrations of the Salaf (early Muslims).

However, the general rule regarding supplications (du'a) is permissibility, unless they include something forbidden. Therefore, it is permissible for a Muslim to ask Allah for the light and blessing of the Qur'an.

The intended meaning of the "light" of the Qur'anic verses is the guidance and faith that it brought. It is a light for the believers in this world and the Hereafter, as stated in Surat An-Nisa/174, Al-Hadid/12, and At-Tahrim/8.

Blessing (Barakah) is abundant and enduring goodness. The Qur'an describes itself with this characteristic in several verses, including Al-An'am/92, 155, and Sad/29. For in it there is much goodness, vast knowledge, guidance, healing, and light. By pondering its verses, its knowledge is extracted, and its secrets and wisdom are understood, and those of understanding remember.
